What if I have never ridden a quad bike before?
We provide full training to ensure you are comfortable with operating a Quad. Our guides recognise that riding a quad bike for the first time can sometimes be a little nerve-racking and we pride ourselves on making riding as fun as possible for ALL levels of experience. Our guides will need to ensure you can demonstrate safe riding before being heading out on the trails.
Training and Safety Protocol:
To ensure everyone's safety, we offer training at the beginning of your quad bike experience. If you're unable to demonstrate safe riding or cannot communicate with our guides during the training in English, for your safety and the safety of others, we won't allow you to participate in the quad bike activity. Quad biking is a physically demanding activity which requires a degree of physical strength and people of smaller stature/slight build are at greater risk of accident. Guides are trained to recognise potential safety concerns, including rider size and strength. This may restrict participation based on known risk factors.
What happens if I'm not confident or capable of riding the quad bike?:
Before the tour departs, all guests receive a safety briefing and basic quad bike training. This gives everyone a chance to get familiar with the bike and demonstrate safe handling. If, during this training session, our guides assess that a rider is not competent or confident enough to safely operate the bike, they will not be allowed to continue riding on the tour. In some cases, guests may be offered the option to ride pillion (as a passenger) on a guide’s bike.
What are the age requirements?
16 years is our minimum age for riding a quad on our tour. This is the manufacturer's recommendation for riding our type of bikes.
How long does it take?
About 3 ½ hours round trip includes 2 – 2 ¼ hours on the bike and 20 minutes each way travelling to and from the base.
What type of bikes do you use? Are they easy to ride?
We use Suzuki quads. Suzuki was the first on four wheels right back in 1982 with the very successful LT125 which was developed right here in rural Whanganui by the then Suzuki importer of the day Rod Coleman. There’s been more than a few models since then and following 34 years of engineering improvements and advancement, Suzuki boasts a line-up of ATVs that is second to none, with features that make everyday riding just that little bit more comfortable.
What sort of terrain and trails can I expect?
We operate on Queenstown hill station, a 3500-acre working sheep farm. We have over 20kms of trails ranging from beginner level through to advanced technical riding. The majority of our tours climb from our base 300 metres above sea level to the summit of Queenstown hill just under 1000 metres above sea level.
What about the weather?
The area we use is exposed to changing weather conditions. We will only cancel a tour if all the trails are completely impassable or there is zero visibility. This is usually due to deep snowfalls and extremely rare.
What should I bring and what should I wear?
We provide helmets; gloves; pants and jackets; gumboots and goggles. You may wear your own fully enclosed shoes.  We provide a hot drink and biscuits but we recommend you bring your own water, especially in the summer months! Cameras are able to be taken on the tour and it is highly recommended you bring one!
Can I go if I’m pregnant?
Quad biking is not recommended for expectant mothers
What if I have a medical condition?
Most medical conditions will not prevent you from taking part (please note restrictions below). We ask that if your condition requires controlling medication that you bring it along in case of emergency as we are in a semi-isolated environment and may have to wait for medical assistance. Our guides are all first aid trained and we have full procedures in place in case of an accident or emergency.
Are there any other restrictions?
* Please be advised that quad biking is not recommended for individuals with disabilities or physical conditions that may affect their participation, such as hearing loss, vision impairment, or loss of mobility.
* The weight limit for Quad Biking is 150 kg.
* We have a strict drug and alcohol policy.  If the guide considers that you are unfit to ride a quad because you are still under the influence of either, we are unable to take you on the tour. There may be no refund offered. This is for the safety of all riders on the tour.
* A valid credit/debit card is required when you check in, otherwise you can not participate in the trip and there will be no refund. In the event of an accident, we may charge up to $2,500 to cover any damage, repairs or insurance excess. * Riders must have a good command of the English language. For safety reasons, customers who are unable to communicate effectively in English are not permitted to participate in this tour.
* Quad biking is a physically demanding activity which requires a degree of physical strength and people of smaller stature/slight build are at greater risk of accident. Guides are trained to recognise potential safety concerns, including rider size and strength. This may restrict participation based on known risk factors.
Is there a free parking area where I can be picked up from?
The main pickup point is Info & Track / Info & Snow, located on 37 Shotover Street - parking can be difficult to find in town. If you have your own vehicle, you can park for free out at the Nomad Safaris Quad Bike Pick Up Location - 420 Tucker Beach Road (Tucker Beach Recreational Reserve), Queenstown. The car park is located very close to our quad base, and if you have your own vehicle you can park it there at your own risk and we can pick you up on the way through. Please ensure you inform us if you prefer this option, otherwise it will be assumed you are meeting us at the shop. It can also be found using What3Words: asparagus.remixes.restarts. Anything else I should know?
Although we strive to make the activity as safe and enjoyable as possible it can involve risks that include but are not limited to; rolling or flipping the vehicle due to terrain or inability to ride, hitting obstacles such as rocks or other riders, falling from the quad or being caught in a natural hazard event such as an earthquake or landslide.
Credit Card Policy:
A valid credit/debit card is required when you check in, otherwise you can not participate in the trip and there will be no refund. In the event of an accident, we may charge up to $2,500 to cover any damage, repairs or insurance excess.

“Professional outfit with amazing guides = ADVENTURE!!!”
What a fantastic adventure! This guided trek on new model 4wd Quads is unbeatable. They start everyone off on basic functions and safety, check your skills and you're off! I have done this quad bike trip three times now and every time it's different. We went from, dry open paddocks to trails to mud, creek crossings, forest trekking and even up rocky creek beds.
My son is 16 and took to the ride very quickly. It started to rain about halfway through the trek, which made it really spectacular. The views and the expert local knowledge really make this trip worthwhile - a must-do on your next Queenstown adventure.
Done it both in Winter and Autumn - both very different and our guides were the same every time. Can't wait to come over again next year.
~ Dan, Burleigh Heads, Australia
