Highlights

  • Drive along the picturesque Queenstown-Glenorchy Road
  • Easy going well-defined track
  • Walk through the beech forest, rising gradually towards  snow-capped peaks
  • Commentary about flora, fauna and historical significance

A beautiful drive along the picturesque Queenstown-Glenorchy Road beside Lake Wakatipu. Beyond Glenorchy, we drive through Paradise and at the end of the road we enter Mt Aspiring National Park and the renowned Routeburn Track. Cross the swing bridge and enter a spectacular Beech Forest. The path is smooth and flat, allowing you to look for birds as they flit through the trees - a treat is to see the Mohua (yellowhead) a rare endemic bird usually seen in small breeding flocks plus the native bush robin and NZ's smallest native bird the Rifleman.

Wander through the nature loop trail with 130million year old magical world of ferns, mosses, lichens & beech forest.  The wide variety of flora and fauna on display is sure to impress. Our guides will also share information about the historical significance of the Routeburn Track and how it was used by Maori and European pioneers.

We recommend that clients wear comfortable appropriate footwear and warm layers all year round. Tours operate all year round, track conditions permitting.

What do I wear?
Sturdy footwear, supportive hiking shoes with a closed toe and no slip tread. Adequate layers as the weather can change rapidly and maybe different to town.
What do I bring with me?
Waterproof jacket, water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, small day pack,(optional) a hat or gloves.
Where will you pick up and drop off? We will pick you up and drop you at any central accommodation or our Info & Track / Info & Snow Office at 37 Shotover Street, Queenstown. Unfortunately we are unable to offer pickups from the Hilton Hotel or Frankton for this tour due to traffic delays.

Important Information: Tour Itinerary Adjustments
Your safety is our top priority. In certain situations, it may be necessary to alter the tour itinerary due to conditions beyond our control, such as high water levels or adverse road conditions. This could mean we are unable to cross rivers or drive certain roads. When booking, please understand that these adjustments may be required. Please also see our full weather cancellation policy
